Infantry Brigades in Israel to Receive Over 2,000 Tavor Rifles

Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) has been awarded a contract by Israel to supply an additional 2,800 Micro-Tavor assault rifles for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The contract, valued at 10.5 million Israeli new shekels ($2.9 million), specifies that the rifles will be delivered to the Nahal, Golani, and Givati infantry brigades by 2024.

The IDF has been utilizing the bullpup rifle design, with the cartridge located behind the trigger, since 2006.

Key Features of the Rifle The Micro-Tavor assault rifle, chambered in 5.56x45mm caliber, boasts longer barrel lengths of 380mm and 419mm, offering superior ballistics compared to similar weapons, particularly in urban warfare scenarios.

Equipped with M-1913 Picatinny rails, the rifle allows for the attachment of various accessories like sights, lights, visual and infrared illuminators.

Ronen Hamudot, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales at SK Group, stated, “The Micro-Tavor’s advanced design and technology were developed in collaboration with the elite units of IDF. Every technological and ergonomic aspect was taken into consideration during its development. We are proud to say that today it is the standard IDF assault rifle.”

This procurement follows previous acquisitions by the IDF of IWI weapons, including the Negev light machine gun and the 40mm grenade launcher, which can be mounted on the Micro-Tavor rifle.
