LHA Ships Promise New Capability for the U.S. against Russia and China

The prime role of amphibious warships in the fleet is to lend support to the Marine Corps of Navy of Functional Maneuver from the Sea (OMFTS) and Boat to Objective Maneuver (STOM). Later, Vice President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Igor Ponomarev said that the “Priboy” chopper carriers were included in Russia’s New State Armament Programme for eight years, and the vessels could be developed either by Severnaya Verf, Baltic Shipyard, or Sevmash. In July 2017, a member of Russia’s State Duma Dmitry Belik blazoned the supereminent boat of the class to be named Sevastopol, after the megacity of Sevastopol. The cost for the ship is to be about RUB40 billion ($ 675 million), and its construction would begin after the blessing of the New State Armament Programme for 2018-2025. It was reported that the first ship of the class would be laid down in May 2020 in Crimea.
